In this series of Children's Series books, Michael Alfred Robert Samson, or Mike M.A.R.S. becomes chosen as one of the seven Project Quicksilver Astronauts.  He and his companions are the pilots that test everything the Project Mercury Astronauts make their flights. They make sure that the Mercury Astronauts are safe from as many dangers as possible and are virtually unknown to the public of the United States.
